**Job Title** Technology & Democracy Lead **Role Summary** Lead the creation and scaling of digital civic‑tech tools that strengthen democratic participation. Combine strategic oversight, product incubation, grantmaking, partnership building, and public advocacy to build a foundational department focused on AI and recommender systems for democracy. **Expectations** - Exhibit entrepreneurial, independent leadership to shape and expand the department. - Build and grow a portfolio of 2–3 prototype democracy tools each cycle. - Drive adoption, iterate, measure impact, and handoff projects to partners. - Manage a small grant fund and network of promising NGOs. - Serve as the foundation’s public voice: publish, speak, convene practice networks. - Leverage co‑funding, public grants, and partnerships to scale impact. - Stay current on EU policy, AI regulation, and democratic resilience research. **Key Responsibilities** 1. **Incubation & Scale** (≈60%) - Identify high‑potential civic‑tech ideas. - Lead design, development, and pilot testing of tools with external teams. - Set adoption milestones, collect metrics, and plan hand‑offs. 2. **Grantmaking & Partnerships** (≈15%) - Operate a dedicated grant fund; evaluate and award proposals. - Build and maintain relationships with NGOs, foundations, and researchers. 3. **Public Engagement & Advocacy** (≈15%) - Publish thought‑leadership articles, white papers, and policy briefs. - Represent the organization at conferences and policy forums. - Convene practitioner networks focused on AI, recommender systems, and democracy. 4. **Strategic Leadership** - Draft the vision for a new department around AI and democratic tech. - Align projects with broader strategic and policy goals. **Required Skills** - **Digital & AI Expertise** – Proven experience launching or scaling software/AI tools from concept to adoption. - **Strategic & Entrepreneurial Thinking** – Ability to define scope, develop roadmaps, and build a new team. - **Network Building** – Track record of securing partnerships with NGOs, foundations, and tech professionals. - **Public Communication** – Strong writing & speaking skills; experienced presenter at industry conferences. - **Fundraising & Grant Management** – Experienced in sourcing co‑funding, public grants, and managing a grant portfolio. - **Policy Knowledge** – Understanding of EU Digital Single Market, AI regulations, and democratic resilience policies. - **Project Management** – Ability to juggle multiple pilots, deadlines, and metrics. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Computer Science, Data Science, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field. - Master’s degree preferred. - Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Certified ScrumMaster, AI ethics) are advantageous but not mandatory. ---
