Job Description
Job Title: Protection & Control Systems Engineer Role Summary: Lead and deliver protection & control system design for transmission & distribution projects. Ensure compliance with IEC 61850, substation protocols, and cybersecurity requirements. Provide technical guidance from concept through approval and support sales and tendering activity. Expectations: - Deliver projects on time, within scope and budget. - Maintain high quality and regulatory compliance. - Communicate effectively with stakeholders, clients and team members. - Proactively identify and mitigate risks. Key Responsibilities: - Chair design workshops, review meetings and stakeholder sessions. - Develop SLDs, KLDs, system architecture, concept designs and functional specifications. - Produce schematics, layouts, calculations, schedules and compliance documents. - Conduct site visits and non‑intrusive surveys to support design and implementation. - Support client approval and qualification of solutions. - Provide technical input for sales, tendering and project costing. - Work collaboratively with Project Manager on schedule, cost and risk management. Required Skills: - Strong knowledge of UK transmission & distribution systems. - Practical experience with protection & control technology (vendors such as Siemens, ABB, GE). - Proficient in IEC 61850 implementation and substation communication protocols. - Understanding of cybersecurity principles in protection & control design. - Analytical, structured working style and ability to lead or work independently. - Excellent written and verbal communication. - Adaptable to changing methods and priorities. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent technical qualification in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field. - Valid UK driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
