Job Description
Job title: Underwriter – Bilingual English/French (9‑Month Contract) Role Summary: Process and evaluate financing applications for Canadian small businesses, performing rigorous due diligence, credit data verification, and risk assessment. Collaborate with sales and customer success teams to resolve documentation gaps and conduct thorough background checks using online and third‑party tools. Expectations: * Perform detailed credit analysis and risk profiling for each loan application. * Ensure completeness of all application documents, including financial statements, tax filings, property and lien records. * Communicate findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and Treasury as needed. * Maintain adherence to regulatory and company policies throughout the underwriting process. Key Responsibilities: * Review and authenticate credit data, bank statements, and supplementary reports for loan candidates. * Analyze tax forms, site visit summaries, ownership registry confirmations, property ownership, and business lien records. * Identify missing or incomplete documentation, liaising with Customer Success and Sales teams for resolution. * Conduct in‑depth online investigations and background checks using available third‑party tools. * Coordinate with Treasury for guidance on complex cases. * Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date underwriting files and reports. Required Skills: * Bilingual proficiency in English and French (verbal and written). * Strong analytical and detail‑oriented mindset. * Experience in credit risk assessment or underwriting (financial services preferred). * Ability to interpret financial statements, tax documents, and property records. * Proficiency with digital investigation tools and database searches. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Required Education & Certifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field. * Valid certification (e.g., Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Credit Analyst) is advantageous.
