Lead Automation Test Engineer
**Role Summary**
Spearhead the automation strategy and delivery for a high‑profile financial services programme. Provide technical leadership to a test engineering team, design and maintain end‑to‑end automated test frameworks, and embed quality practices across web, API, database, and cloud environments.
**Expectations**
- Deliver reliable, maintainable automated test solutions that meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor and coach automation engineers, fostering continuous improvement and best‑practice adoption.
- Ensure seamless integration of automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and shift‑left testing workflows.
- Communicate progress, risks, and defect status to technical and business stakeholders.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance for the automation engineering team.
- Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test frameworks for web UI, APIs, databases, and cloud services.
- Create comprehensive test plans, test cases, scenarios, test data, and accompanying documentation.
- Evaluate, select, and recommend automation tools suited to system architecture and project needs.
- Define and execute performance testing strategies, including scope, environments, risks, and resource allocation.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/Jenkins), support automated reporting, and drive shift‑left testing.
- Coordinate SIT/OAT/UAT activities with technical and business stakeholders.
- Analyse design documents for testability, ensuring requirements traceability across test assets.
- Log, track, and report defects; participate in triage sessions and verify fixes.
- Provide continuous improvement recommendations for processes, tooling, and automation capabilities.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and adapt automation strategies accordingly.
**Required Skills**
- Extensive automation testing experience in financial services or complex enterprise environments.
- Proven JavaScript expertise for automated test scripting (Selenium WebDriver IO, Cucumber, Selenium UI, RestAssured).
- Manual testing proficiency alongside automation skills.
- Cloud testing experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Jenkins pipeline creation, CI/CD integration, and automated reporting.
- Web UI testing, database comparison testing, and API testing (REST, GraphQL).
- Test management tools: JIRA, Xephyr, and others.
- GitOps and modern DevOps workflows.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Experience in Agile and Waterfall delivery environments.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Industry certifications such as ISTQB (Advanced or Professional) are preferred but not mandatory.
