Job Description: Job title: Senior Test Engineer, API/Integration Specialist Role Summary: Senior technical specialist responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining API contract and integration testing for a Ruby on Rails application with PostgreSQL. Provides hands‑on testing support for critical deployment milestones, mentors junior QA staff, and collaborates with an external automation vendor to build sustainable testing infrastructure. Expactations: • Deliver API and integration test suites that meet strict government/regulatory quality standards. • Enable timely deployment milestones by providing accurate test coverage and early defect detection. • Reduce QA backlog and increase team capacity through effective mentoring and knowledge transfer. • Seamlessly integrate external automation tools into existing test architecture. • Produce clear, maintainable documentation of testing processes and environments. Key Responsibilities: - Design and maintain REST API contract tests and service virtualization for Ruby on Rails/ PostgreSQL backend. - Build mock services and test harnesses for system integration points. - Provide hands‑on support for critical client deployment milestones. - Mentor intermediate and junior QA members, delivering API testing best practices. - Collaborate with external automation vendor to ensure technical foundation supports their work. - Document testing approaches, infrastructure, and handoffs for repeatability across products. Required Skills: - 7+ years of software testing with deep API/integration expertise. - Hands‑on experience with REST API contract testing, service virtualization/mocking, and integration test frameworks. - Technical proficiency in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Azure cloud infrastructure. - Proven ability to design and implement test infrastructure, not merely write tests. - Experience testing in government or regulated industry environments. - Strong mentoring skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. - Track record of collaborating effectively with external automation consultants. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (preferred). - Relevant certifications such as ISTQB Certified Tester, Professional Software Test Engineer (PSTE), or equivalent are a plus.
