Job title: Field Engineer Intern
Role Summary: 2–5‑month, site‑based internship focused on construction management within an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor environment. Interns support project management teams on active construction sites, learn practical field operations, and contribute to live project deliverables.
Expactations:
- Complete a 2‑month office orientation in the project‑management office, followed by 4–6 months on‑site execution.
- Work under the supervision of a field engineering team, completing assigned responsibilities that impact project progress.
- Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and adherence to company safety and quality standards.
- Transition smoothly through cooperative, hybrid, or summer internship structures, as applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking for construction activities.
- Conduct site inspections, document observations, and generate daily/weekly field reports.
- Monitor safety compliance, identify hazards, and support implementation of corrective actions.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment usage, and subcontractor activities.
- Support real‑time data collection (e.g., measurements, sketches, photographs) and reporting to project managers.
- Participate in project meetings, prep meeting minutes, and contribute to problem‑solving initiatives.
- Perform field testing, quality control checks, and ensure adherence to specifications.
Required Skills:
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's program in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced construction environment.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and field‑data tools.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Adaptability to varying internship formats (co‑op, hybrid, summer).
Required Education & Certifications:
- Current student status in an engineering program; expected to complete coursework during internship.
- Must be eligible for in‑state and out‑of‑state internship programs; confirm with the university’s Cooperative Education department.
- Preferred: OSHA 10‑hour Construction Safety Certification or equivalent (if available).
