Job Description
Job title: Early Years SENDCo Role Summary: Lead and coordinate the SEND provision within a busy nursery, serving as the primary contact for children with additional needs, their families, staff, and external professionals. Ensure early identification, assessment, and implementation of inclusive strategies that comply with the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the EYFS. Provide ongoing staff support, training, and documentation management to uphold statutory duties and promote an inclusive learning environment. Expactations: - Deliver high‑quality SEND support that enables every child to reach their potential. - Maintain robust, up‑to‑date records and support documentation for all SEND children and EHCP processes. - Collaborate effectively with families and multi‑agency partners, fostering transparent communication and shared decision‑making. - Champion inclusive practice across the nursery, aiding staff to differentiate learning and meet individual needs. - Support the nursery to meet statutory requirements and prepare for audits, Ofsted inspections, and policy reviews. Key Responsibilities: - Identify, assess, and monitor children with SEND, ensuring timely support after early detection. - Develop, review, and implement tailored support and intervention plans aligned with the SEND Code and EYFS. - Liaise with parents, carers, speech‑language therapists, educational psychologists, early years advisers, and health visitors. - Contribute to EHCP requests, reviews, and multi‑agency meetings. - Advise and train nursery staff on inclusive practices, differentiation, and reasonable adjustments. - Maintain accurate SEND records, support documentation, and funding referrals. - Monitor progress of SEND children, report outcomes to senior leadership, and support evidence‑based improvements. - Update and enforce the nursery’s SEND policy, ensuring statutory compliance and readiness for Ofsted inspections. Required Skills: - Strong communication and interpersonal skills suited to working with families and professionals. - Proactive, organised, and compassionate approach to inclusive education. - Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and EYFS specifications. - Ability to develop and deliver staff training on inclusion. - Detail‑oriented record‑keeping and administrative competence. - Collaborative team‑player with the capacity to lead and influence practice. Required Education & Certifications: - Full Level 3 Early Years qualification (or higher). - Level 3 SENDCo Award or equivalent recognised qualification (or willingness to pursue). - Prior experience working with children with SEND in an early years setting. - Demonstrated understanding of statutory SEND legislation and EYFS framework.
