Job Title: DevOps Systems Engineer Consultant
Role Summary:
Provide contract‑to‑hire DevOps expertise for a biotech organization transitioning to GMP‑compliant operations. Design, implement, and manage AWS‑based infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and hybrid on‑prem/cloud environments to support genomics and AI workflows.
Expectations:
- Minimum 3 years of DevOps or Systems Engineering experience, preferably in regulated biotech or similar domains.
- Proven ability to design scalable cloud solutions and enforce secure, compliant practices.
- Comfortable with high‑performance computing and large scientific data pipelines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and deploy scalable AWS infrastructure (EC2, S3, load balancers, GPU instances) for genomics and AI applications.
2. Standardize code asset management, repository structures, and branching strategies across teams.
3. Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, and Terraform/CloudFormation.
4. Manage hybrid environments: on‑prem Ubuntu/Linux, Windows servers, VMWare VMs, and AWS services.
5. Automate container deployment with Docker and Kubernetes; configure cluster networking, storage, and scaling.
6. Monitor performance and reliability of HPC workloads, large‑scale datasets, and applications using Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or ELK.
7. Implement observability, alerting, and security protocols to meet regulatory and compliance standards.
8. Provide technical guidance to cross‑functional teams (bioinformatics, data science, IT) and troubleshoot complex issues.
Required Skills:
- Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows server administration.
- AWS architecture (EC2, S3, ELB, ECS/EKS, IAM, VPC, security groups).
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation.
- Container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes.
- CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions/Repo, Jenkins, Ansible.
- Scripting: Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Monitoring & observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, ELK).
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance (GMP, HIPAA, SOC) and secure data handling.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or AWS Solutions Architect) preferred; other DevOps or cloud certifications acceptable.
