Job Title
STAGE MODELISATION EN VIBRATIONS D'ORIGINE FERROVIAIRE DES SOLS
Job Description
Job Title: Internship – Railway‑Induced Ground Vibration Modelling Role Summary: Support the development of advanced simulation tools to predict and mitigate vibrations generated by urban rail systems transmitted to surrounding buildings. Focus on improving soil modelling, excitation modelling, and user interface for the GroundVib software, with an emphasis on machine‑learning‑assisted transfer function estimation and GIS‑based data handling. Expectations: • 6‑month paid internship (35 hrs/week). • Participate in all phases of a vibration mitigation project—simulation design, data interpretation, and solution deployment. • Deliver code modules and documentation for integration into Vibratec’s GroundVib tool. Key Responsibilities: 1. Analyse railway‑induced vibration mechanisms and propagation through soil. 2. Develop a database of soil transfer functions using FEM‑BEM techniques. 3. Design and implement a machine‑learning model to rapidly estimate soil transfer characteristics. 4. Integrate ML‑based transfer functions into GroundVib for real‑time simulation. 5. Create a program to import georeferenced (GIS) input files and output results as cartographic visualisations. 6. Enhance the GroundVib user interface for data loading, processing, and result display. 7. Validate models against measurement data and client requirements. Required Skills: • Proficiency in Python and MATLAB (scripting, numerical methods). • Experience with FEM/BEM (finite element / boundary element) analysis. • Fundamentals of vibration physics, soil‑structure interaction. • Machine‑learning fundamentals (regression, model training, inference). • GIS grasp: reading/writing georeferenced data formats, mapping libraries. • Strong problem‑solving and debugging skills. • Ability to communicate clearly in technical French and English. Required Education & Certifications: • Currently enrolled in the final year of a Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering program. • Demonstrated interest in railway/transportation or civil‑engineering vibration topics. • No specific certifications required.
