Job Description
Job Title: Senior Data Engineer (Airbyte – BigQuery – dbt – Python – Looker) Role Summary: Lead the design, development, and scaling of data pipelines and models that support embedded insurance products. Responsible for building clean, reliable, and secure data solutions, ensuring high-quality data governance across a multi‑tenant environment, and driving continuous improvement of the data architecture. Expectations: - Deliver robust, production‑ready data pipelines from prototype to full scale. - Maintain data integrity and governance with comprehensive testing and documentation. - Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance for all partners and customers. - Champion best‑practice engineering and collaborate with cross‑functional teams. Key Responsibilities: - Develop, maintain, and evolve dbt pipelines to support daily program operations. - Design and implement a scalable data model optimized for complex insurance data. - Build a multi‑tenant data architecture that segregates customer data while sharing code. - Automate operational reporting to reduce manual effort. - Optimize BigQuery usage, consolidating data sources and keeping the warehouse lean. - Strengthen data governance: data tests, unit tests, anomaly detection, lineage tracking, controlled access, and thorough documentation. - Protect partner data privacy and comply with relevant regulations. - Continuously review and refine data architecture and engineering practices. - Conduct code reviews, share knowledge, and promote best‑practice adoption. - Enable business users to become data‑driven through support and consultation. Required Skills: - Minimum 5 years of experience with SQL and data modelling. - Fluent in Python for data transformation and automation. - Strong proficiency with dbt and Looker (highly desirable). - Hands‑on experience with Airbyte, BigQuery, and serverless data warehouses. - Knowledge of modern data stack components and tooling (Git, Bash, CI/CD, Docker). - Proven track record delivering software products with unit and integration tests. - Comfortable with cloud services and data‑engineering pipelines. - Excellent communication and presentation skills in English. - Pragmatic, results‑oriented mindset; able to trade technical elegance for rapid delivery when necessary. - Autonomous, proactive, and comfortable in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a related discipline (Master’s degree in STEM preferred but not mandatory). - Relevant certifications (e.g., Google Cloud, Snowflake, dbt, etc.) are a plus but not required.
