Job Description
**Job Title:** Structural Engineer **Role Summary:** Remote structural engineer responsible for technical design, analysis, and construction support of heavy‑industry facilities (mining, energy, industrial). Up to 30 % travel to client site near Kamloops. Deliver design calculations, drawings, repair plans, and reports while ensuring compliance with Canadian codes and client safety protocols. **Expectations:** - Work effectively at live operating facilities and in the field. - Follow all safety management plans and procedures. - Produce high‑quality design documents and field reports within agreed timelines. - Identify opportunities to improve workflow, quality, and efficiency. - Communicate risks and recommendations transparently with the project team. **Key Responsibilities:** - Determine design criteria and prepare engineering calculations and technical designs. - Perform computer‑based structural analysis (e.g., finite element). - Develop detailed drawing layouts and construction details. - Conduct design studies and site visits for data collection and assessment. - Carry out field inspections (tool‑based and visual) of steel platforms, walkways, staircases, grating, beams, bracing, cantilevers, etc. - Generate repair designs and inspection reports using collected data, photos, and measurements. - Respond promptly to client RFIs and provide construction support. - Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, clients, and project staff to ensure timely, high‑quality deliverables. - Proactively identify risks early, propose mitigations, and maintain open communication with all stakeholders. - Continuously seek process improvements to enhance workflow, quality, and project outcomes. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in structural theory, design, and analysis. - Strong CAD/CAAD and computer‑analysis skills. - In‑depth knowledge of Canadian building codes and standards (NBCC, CSA S16, CSA S23, CSA S304). - Excellent oral and written communication; technical sketching and reporting. - Ability to multitask, meet schedules and budgets. - Field inspection capability and familiarity with live facilities. - Commitment to safety and procedural compliance. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited university. - Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia or eligible to register with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC. - Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience in heavy‑industry sectors (or 7 years in commercial/light industry) within Canada.
