Job title: Senior Staff Engineer
Role Summary:
Lead cross‑team architectural strategy and technical decision‑making for a high‑growth consumer tech organization. Drive system design, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability across multiple squads, while coaching engineers and shaping long‑term technical direction.
Expectations:
• Exhibit strategic leadership and influence across squads and business units.
• Deliver high‑quality, scalable, secure systems that support rapid, safe releases.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, driving a culture of excellence.
• Own complex, high‑impact initiatives and serve as escalation point for technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and own system architecture for multiple squads.
- Set and enforce technical standards, patterns, and best practices.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, workshops, and cross‑discipline consultations.
- Oversee release processes, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering workflows.
- Provide hands‑on support for high‑impact or high‑risk projects.
- Mentor, coach, hire, onboard, and develop direct reports and peer engineers.
- Partner with product, technology, and executive leaders to prioritize work and allocate resources.
- Evaluate and adopt new tools, technologies, and processes to improve engineering capacity.
- Shape and execute multi‑year technical strategy aligned with business goals.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years software engineering experience (backend, frontend, or full‑stack).
- Expert knowledge of modern distributed architectures (API‑first, microservices, composable systems).
- Proven leadership in system design, architecture reviews, and complex decision‑making.
- Strong debugging, performance optimisation, and reliability engineering skills.
- Deep experience with CI/CD, automation, and DevOps principles.
- Excellent communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Leadership, coaching, mentoring, and hiring capabilities for senior and mid‑level engineers.
- Strategic planning, estimation, forecasting, and risk management.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across organisational boundaries.
- Breadth across full technology stack (backend, frontend, mobile) and cross‑discipline architecture.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator) preferred but not mandatory.
