Job Description
**Job Title** Principal Systems Engineer (Facilities & Infrastructure) **Role Summary** Lead technical delivery and systems engineering for high‑value infrastructure projects supporting test, trials, training and evaluation of aviation, land and environmental systems. Act as Technical Lead and Mentor, guiding programmes from requirements through to service transition while ensuring safety‑by‑design, regulatory compliance and adherence to time, cost and quality targets. **Expectations** - Provide technical leadership across multiple complex infrastructure programmes. - Produce and maintain systems‑engineering artefacts throughout the project lifecycle. - Mentor junior engineers and advise stakeholders on engineering governance and risk. - Ensure all solutions meet safety, security and regulatory standards. **Key Responsibilities** - Develop Technical Delivery Plans, stakeholder & system requirements, architecture designs, integrated test & evaluation plans and acceptance plans. - Tailor project lifecycles and engineering governance approaches; coach teams on best practices. - Oversee subcontracted technical work, ensuring risk visibility, mitigation and compliance. - Identify and manage critical safety, security and high‑risk elements early in the lifecycle. - Plan and coordinate complex installation, integration and acceptance activities across multidisciplinary teams. **Required Skills** - Proven experience delivering facility and building upgrades using systems‑engineering processes. - Leadership of high‑value technical programmes through full lifecycle. - Sector expertise in defence/military, aviation test facilities, UK nuclear sites, railways or critical industrial infrastructure. - Strong knowledge of systems integration (facilities, equipment, control, communications, IT). - Deep understanding of engineering standards, RIBA stage gates, CDM, JCT, NEC and safety‑critical compliance. - Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and multiple stakeholders. - Excellent communication, mentoring and coaching abilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering or related technical discipline. - Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent preferred. - Active Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain SC.
