**Job Title:** Machine Learning Researcher (NLP)
**Role Summary:** Lead end-to-end NLP research for a newly established mid‑frequency trading pod, delivering high‑frequency alpha signals from diverse alternative data sources to a live trading environment.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver production‑grade NLP models that directly contribute to PnL.
- Own the research roadmap while collaborating with portfolio managers, execution engineers, and data scientists.
- Participate in performance‑based compensation and profit‑sharing plans.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Acquire and preprocess news, filings, transcripts, audio, web, and social/alternative data for signal generation.
- Design, fine‑tune, and scale transformer/LLM architectures (representation learning, event extraction, sentiment, topic/causal features, long‑context).
- Conduct execution‑aware back‑tests, including slippage/impact, timestamp alignment, leakage control, regime analysis, and capacity studies.
- Translate validated signals into portfolio positions with robust risk controls, attribution, and real‑time monitoring.
- Collaborate with engineering and trading teams to integrate models into live deployment pipelines.
**Required Skills:**
- 3–8 years quantitative research with primary focus on NLP/ML for alpha.
- Expert Python (PyTorch/TF/JAX), distributed training (Ray/Dask/Spark), SQL (kdb+/q).
- Proficiency in embeddings, sequence modeling, retrieval/knowledge integration, prompt engineering, and model evaluation/interpretability.
- Strong understanding of market microstructure, transaction costs, and linking text events to price/volume across futures, FX, and equities.
- Detail‑oriented, empirical, delivery‑focused, with excellent collaboration skills.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- PhD (preferred) or MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or Deep Learning.
