Job Description
**Job Title** Groundwater Modeler **Role Summary** Develop, calibrate, and update numerical groundwater flow and transport models to support water resource management projects under the California Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. Analyze hydrogeologic data, generate conceptual and quantitative models, and present findings to clients and internal teams. **Expectations** - Deliver high‑quality model outputs and documentation within established timeframes. - Maintain accurate, organized data files and model repositories. - Communicate technical results effectively in meetings, reports, and presentations. - Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with flexibility for remote or on‑site duties. **Key Responsibilities** - Interpret lithologic, hydrotest, water‑quality, and borehole geophysical data. - Compile, process, and analyze hydrogeologic datasets using spreadsheets, databases, GIS, and programming tools. - Construct hydrogeologic conceptual models and water‑budget tables. - Develop, run, and refine MODFLOW‑based models (including MF6, NWT, USG, OWHM, GSFLOW, etc.) and accompany them with appropriate Groundwater Vistas workflows. - Perform model pre‑processing (grid setup, parameter estimation) and post‑processing (results evaluation, sensitivity analysis). - Manage model tasks, update schedules, and ensure version control. - Prepare technical memos, summaries, presentations, and peer‑reviewable reports. - Lead or participate in client teleconferences and onsite meetings to explain model results and management recommendations. **Required Skills** - Proficient in Microsoft Office, GIS software, and programming languages (Python, Scilab, Fortran, Octave, etc.). - Advanced knowledge of MODFLOW suite and Groundwater Vistas. - Strong quantitative hydrogeology and groundwater‑modeling methodology. - Excellent written and oral communication; ability to distill complex technical material for diverse audiences. - Demonstrated organizational, problem‑solving, and deadline‑management abilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Graduate (M.S., Ph.D.) in hydrology, geology, water resources engineering, or a closely related field. - Coursework or training in hydrogeologic data analysis, groundwater modeling, and computer programming. - Professional training in quantitative hydrogeology and groundwater modeling. - U.S. citizenship or authorized work status.
