Research and Development Engineering Associate (Co‑op 8+ Months Preferred)
**Role Summary**
Support the R&D engineering team in developing, testing, and manufacturing proprietary sensor modules and upstream sensor technologies for medical devices. Execute experimental procedures, analyze data, and document findings for internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with clinical, manufacturing, and data analysis teams to prototype, validate, and integrate new sensor solutions into product pipelines.
**Expectations**
- Full‑time student in a post‑secondary engineering, biomedical, or related program.
- Minimum 8‑month co‑op term preferred.
- Able to work in a laboratory environment and switch between rapid prototyping and rigorous scientific experimentation.
- Familiar with ISO 13485 or similar quality management systems.
- Strong communication skills for technical reporting and presentations.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Design, improve, and test sensor‑related processes for product iterations.
- Plan and execute experimental procedures, including Design of Experiments.
- Analyze, document, and present R&D data to stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot sensor issues and perform root‑cause analysis with limited context.
- Write, update, and execute verification and validation test plans.
- Propose new sensor technologies, assess feasibility, and plan integration into the product pipeline.
- Contribute to PCB design, firmware development, and hardware testing; interface with manufacturers.
- Develop functional test and verification protocols with the quality team; conduct prototype and verification testing.
- Assist internal R&D and manufacturing teams as required.
**Required Skills**
- Experience in sensor research, Design of Experiments, and technical reporting.
- Systematic scientific methodology aligned to project goals.
- Ability to balance rapid prototyping with scientifically rigorous work.
- Aptitude for mechanical design of fixtures and jigs using Fusion 360, SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in electronic system operation, troubleshooting, and embedded development (Arduino, etc.).
- Scripting and signal‑processing experience in Python.
- Familiarity with embedded systems testing methodologies.
- Biosensor‑specific research experience.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 and quality management processes.
- Strong documentation, organization, and presentation skills.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and environments.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Current full‑time student in an accredited post‑secondary program (engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field).
- Eligible for co‑op wages and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee status holder.
- No specific certifications required beyond educational background; familiarity with ISO 13485 is advantageous.
