Job Title
Computational Biology Intern
Job Description
Job Title: Computational Biology Intern Role Summary: Assume full ownership of single‑cell analysis projects on real human neurology data. Design and implement scalable, reproducible pipelines; validate and harden gene‑program and network workflows; translate complex modeling outputs into clear biological insights and actionable artifacts for downstream teams. Expectations: * Deliver robust, decision‑driving analyses in a 12‑16 week internship. * Work independently with minimal supervision, turning ambiguous problems into finished, reproducible work. * Demonstrate clear communication of methods and results to cross‑functional stakeholders. * Produce code and documentation that follows best practices (version control, testing, CI/CD). Key Responsibilities: * Cell‑type identification and lineage refinement to enhance depth and accuracy for targeted lineages. * Develop and evaluate robust gene‑program and network inference pipelines, ensuring stability across donors and batches (e.g., downsampling, perturbation tests). * Apply latent‑factor and state‑modeling techniques (pathway/state scoring, decomposition) and transform outputs into interpretable biology and usable artifacts. * Enhance internal analysis and machine‑learning tooling: build reusable pipelines, libraries, and CI/CD frameworks to accelerate iteration pace. * Create MCP‑compatible standardized analysis tools enabling internal agents to query curated outputs and retrieve structured synthesis (tables, plots, metrics). Required Skills: * Hands‑on single‑cell analysis using Seurat and/or Scanpy. * Proficient programming in R and/or Python; solid UNIX command‑line proficiency (environments, CLI workflows, basic debugging). * Proven track record of delivering reproducible work (public GitHub repo, publication, preprint, poster, or detailed project write‑up). * Ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and drive work to completion. Preferred Skills: * Familiarity with neuroscience or neurodegenerative disease research. * Experience building reusable tooling (packages, pipelines, CI/testing, containers, workflow orchestration, or cloud/HPC). * Background in robustness/stability evaluations across donors/batches (downsampling, perturbation testing, sensitivity analyses). Required Education & Certifications: * Senior student (undergraduate, master’s, or PhD) in Computer Science, Biology, Computational Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, or a closely related field. * No specific certifications required.
