**Job Title** EEIP Intern – Electricity Infrastructure & Buildings Research **Role Summary** A 10‑week paid summer research internship for graduate students focused on research in electric grid modernization, renewable integration, building energy systems, and energy policy. Interns work within the Energy and Environment Directorate, are paired with a mentor and assigned to a research group aligned with their background in electrical, mechanical, architectural, systems engineering, data science, or energy economics. **Expectations** - Participate in cohort onboarding and professional development sessions. - Commence work on the agreed start date (May 26 2026 or June 19 2026). - Attend research group meetings, contribute actively to project deliverables. - Produce written and oral reports of findings; support co‑authorship of technical papers. - Uphold lab safety, data integrity, and confidentiality standards. **Key Responsibilities** - Conduct modeling, simulation, and analysis of power systems (grid architecture, cyber‑physical security). - Apply learning and predictive analytics, control theory, and optimization to energy systems. - Develop building energy models, evaluate electrical system integration, and assess whole‐building performance. - Perform policy, market, and regulatory analysis related to buildings and electricity infrastructure. - Assist in data collection, cleaning, and processing; develop dashboards or visualizations as required. - Support instrumentation setup, sensor calibration, and experimental validation of energy technologies. - Draft technical documentation, progress reports, and contribution summaries for publication. **Required Skills** - Strong analytical and quantitative skills; experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar. - Familiarity with power system tools (e.g., PSS®E, PowerWorld) or building energy modeling software (e.g., EnergyPlus). - Knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, or control systems is advantageous. - Effective oral and written communication; ability to present complex concepts clearly. - Team‑oriented mindset; ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary groups. - Self‑directed learning; adaptability to new research methodologies and tools. **Required Education & Certifications** - Current enrollment in a Master’s program (or Ph.D. candidacy) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, building sciences, systems engineering, data science, energy policy, or economics. - Must possess the academic standing necessary to complete a full‑time summer internship. ---
