Job Description
**Job Title** Senior Actuary – Internal Model Oversight **Role Summary** Provide second‑line oversight and independent validation of Canada Life’s internal models, ensuring they are robust, well‑governed, and Solvency II compliant. Act as the primary liaison with the Chief Risk Officer and senior management on model risk, deliver clear risk opinions, and support the broader risk and governance framework. **Expectations** - Deliver comprehensive model reviews and validation reports with executive‑level clarity. - Maintain rigorous documentation and audit trails in line with internal governance policy. - Rapidly acquire deep technical proficiency in life‑insurance modelling, calibration, and Solvency II capital requirements. - Influence senior stakeholders to implement remedial actions and improve model quality. **Key Responsibilities** - Conduct second‑line oversight of the Partial Internal Model (PIM), reviewing major/minor changes and calibration exercises. - Maintain rolling PIM review schedule, aligning with Solvency II requirements and the CRO’s opinion. - Perform independent validations on CLUK models, preparing terms of reference, audit findings, and executive summaries. - Monitor and verify implementation of remedial actions, escalating unresolved issues. - Partner with model developers to embed best practices and ensure future model use aligns with governance standards. - Support broader risk initiatives: ORSA engagement, PRA interactions, and annual governance body reviews. - Maintain and update Internal Model Standards documents and governance frameworks. **Required Skills** - Extensive actuarial experience in the life‑insurance sector, with strong technical knowledge of Solvency II capital and internal model calibrations. - Expertise in model development, validation, or audit, including proficiency in statistical and actuarial software. - Deep understanding of the “three lines of defence” and the role of second‑line oversight. - Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of translating complex technical issues into concise reports for all levels. - Strong attention to detail, discipline, and audit‑trail consistency. - Executive‑level influencing, stakeholder engagement, and network‑building abilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Actuarial qualification (e.g., ASA, AIA, FSA, or equivalent) with advanced levels completed. - Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant actuarial experience, preferably in internal model oversight or validation. ---
