Job Description
**Job Title:** Internship (Civil Rights Advocacy – Non‑profit) **Role Summary:** Support the Council of American Relations – Sacramento Valley/Central California (CAIR‑SVCC) in advancing civil liberties, Islam awareness, and community empowerment through a 10‑12‑week, part‑time, hybrid internship. Interns gain practical experience across program areas such as youth empowerment, legal assistance, community organizing, policy advocacy, media relations, and digital design while complementing academic studies. **Expectations:** - Commit 15 hrs/week (Fall/Spring) or 20 hrs/week (Summer) for the full internship term. - Attend on‑site work a minimum of two days per week. - Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, organization, and multitasking abilities. - Show enthusiasm for CAIR’s mission and civil‑rights work. - Obtain unpaid status; pursue external scholarships or fellowships if needed. **Key Responsibilities (choose department focus):** - Assist youth programming on identity, civil rights, and civic engagement. - Support special projects/grants: data collection, research, system development. - Aid Immigrants Rights Center staff with client case preparation and documentation. - Perform operations duties: schedule coordination, meeting logistics, office organization. - Conduct community‑organizing activities to build coalitions against Islamophobia. - Participate in civil‑rights case research, documentation, and community outreach. - Contribute to development efforts: donor research and stewardship strategies. - Support policy & advocacy work: legislative research and grassroots mobilization. - Help plan and execute CAIR events and respond to public inquiries. - Manage media relations: track coverage, draft press releases, write op‑eds. - Create and maintain website content; design graphics for publications and ads. **Required Skills:** - Excellent written and oral communication. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities. - Ability to work independently and within a team in a hybrid environment. - Passion for civil‑rights, social‑justice, and CAIR’s mission. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate program, or recent graduate (minimum age 17). - No specific certifications required.
