Job Description
**Job Title:** IT Security Intern (Summer 2026) **Role Summary:** Support the information security program of a large freight brokerage firm by monitoring activity, investigating incidents, and assisting with security improvement projects. Gain practical experience with security tools, frameworks (NIST, OWASP), and reporting while working under senior security professionals. **Expectations:** - Maintain a proactive learning attitude and ask insightful questions. - Communicate clearly in written and verbal form. - Work independently to troubleshoot and resolve security issues. - Contribute to team tasks and adhere to internship timeline (summer 2026). **Key Responsibilities:** - Investigate and resolve complex security incidents. - Prioritize and assist with remediation from internal/external penetration tests. - Recommend and help implement security enhancements. - Design and manage access controls, permissions, and resource protections. - Configure, test, and maintain security technologies (IPS, EDR, SIEM, NAC, antivirus, patch management). - Conduct vulnerability scans, risk analyses, and system security assessments. - Support incident response activities and update runbooks. - Perform security audits to identify gaps or inefficiencies. - Produce quarterly reports on physical, data, and application security status. - Contribute to the annual security strategy report. **Required Skills:** - Strong written and verbal communication. - Foundational knowledge of networking, operating systems, and basic security concepts. - Ability to troubleshoot independently and think critically. - Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, OWASP) is a plus. - Basic experience with security tools (e.g., SIEM, EDR) through coursework or self‑study. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Currently enrolled in a degree program (IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field). - Expected graduation between December 2026 and May 2027. - No specific certifications required; coursework or self‑study in security topics acceptable.
