Job Description
**Job Title:** Data Science Internship (R&D) **Role Summary:** Support R&D for route‑ranking algorithms in a mobility application. Conduct literature review, data analysis, and design a novel ranking/ordering method for public transport itineraries. Implement the solution in Python (or C++/Rust) and validate it within the existing search engine. **Expectations:** * 4–6 month internship, full‑time. * Work remotely 2–3 days per week and attend onsite as needed. * Deliver a functioning ranking method that can be integrated into the production system. * Demonstrate analytical rigor and innovative thinking. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Review existing literature on ranking and scoring for public transport and related domains. 2. Analyze user‑log data to understand real‑world itinerary usage patterns. 3. Design and prototype a route‑ranking algorithm (e.g., Pareto front, fuzzy comparison, other approaches). 4. Implement the algorithm in Python (mandatory), optionally in C++ or Rust. 5. Integrate and test the method within the current RAPTOR‑based search engine. 6. Evaluate performance, accuracy, and scalability; iterate based on results. 7. Collaborate with development and R&D teams to align with product objectives. **Required Skills:** * Advanced programming in Python (mandatory); proficiency in C++ or Rust is a plus. * Strong analytical and mathematical background, especially in operations research or applied mathematics. * Familiarity with algorithm design, data structures, and performance optimization. * Experience with data analysis and handling large log datasets. * Ability to work independently, ask clarifying questions, and deliver clear documentation. * Good communication skills in English (additional language skills welcome). **Required Education & Certifications:** * Current enrollment in a Master’s program (M2) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or a closely related field. * Coursework or research experience in optimization, ranking algorithms, or transportation systems preferred.
