Job Description
**Job title:** Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects Officer Student Placement **Role Summary:** A sandwich‑year student placement supporting the Planning Inspectorate’s National Infrastructure Group. The role provides front‑line operational support for infrastructure planning projects across England, including stakeholder coordination, event logistics, documentation compliance, and preliminary meeting facilitation. **Expectations:** - Sandwich‑year student enrolled in an environmental‑related degree (environmental science, environmental management, ecology, geography). - Will complete the full placement term (typical 12‑24 months). - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and deliver accurate administrative support. **Key Responsibilities:** - Serve as the first point of contact for numerous infrastructure projects; respond to and escalade queries. - Assist in planning and executing both online and in‑person meetings, site visits, and hearings. - Prepare, track, and summarise reports, technical briefs, and meeting minutes. - Create and maintain mailing lists; coordinate document redaction, publication, and distribution. - Analyse documentation for compliance with the Planning Act 2008. - Support inspectors and internal teams with data management, information retrieval, and case evidence organisation. - Provide high‑quality written and telephone communication to applicants, the public, local authorities, and other stakeholders. - Represent the Inspectorate at relevant events and contribute to continuous improvement and team collaboration initiatives. - Ensure compliance with organisational data, health, and safety policies. **Required Skills:** - Advanced Microsoft Office (especially Excel for large spreadsheets and complex reports). - High‑level accuracy in data entry, record checking, and documentation review. - Excellent written and verbal communication, including stakeholder engagement and escalating issues. - Strong organisational and prioritisation skills; capability to manage multiple concurrent tasks. - Customer‑service orientation and ability to respond to varied inquiries promptly and professionally. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Enrolment in an undergraduate or postgraduate‑level program in environmental science, environmental management, ecology, or geography (sandwich‑year placement). - No specific certifications required.
