**Job title:** AI Engineer – Framework & Models
**Role Summary:**
Lead the design, implementation, and operational support of AI frameworks and models for an academic research and teaching environment. Manage end‑to‑end AI pipeline from infrastructure provisioning to model delivery, ensuring quality, compliance, security, and scalability across internal research and educational applications such as chatbots, voice assistants, retrieval‑augmented generation, and virtual tutors.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver robust, production‑ready models (traditional ML & large language models/agents) within defined timelines and budgets.
- Maintain high reliability with zero major security incidents and compliance breaches.
- Achieve measurable performance targets: CI/CD success rate, inference cost reduction, evaluation coverage, and deployment velocity.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams, contractors, and stakeholders to align on roadmaps, specifications, and governance.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Framework & Model Management** – configure OS, GPU drivers, NVIDIA H100 clusters, storage, and security; deploy models into production with CI/CD pipelines.
2. **Model Delivery** – develop, evaluate, and industrialise AI models; implement metrics such as TTM, cost per inference, and coverage.
3. **Project Governance** – set roadmaps, define architectural specifications, scope user needs, create KPIs, and lead sprints.
4. **Development & Testing** – participate in coding and parameter tuning; oversee unit, integration, and user‑acceptance testing.
5. **Documentation & Training** – author functional specs, SOPs, training materials, and operation manuals; conduct user training sessions.
6. **Inter‑departmental Coordination** – liaise with Digital Services (DSI), IT security, research teams, and pedagogical units.
7. **Budget & Reporting** – prepare and monitor budgets; produce status reports and market‑demand analyses.
8. **Operational Maintenance** – define product backlogs, prioritize enhancements, and orchestrate support across remote teams.
**Required Skills:**
- **Project Management:** Proven experience leading digital projects, managing multiple concurrent initiatives, and coordinating distributed teams.
- **AI & Infrastructure Expertise:** Hands‑on knowledge of GPU clusters (NVIDIA), model deployment pipelines (CI/CD), and evaluation frameworks (golden sets).
- **Technical Proficiency:** Familiarity with major university IT stacks (Microsoft Office 365, Moodle, Shibboleth/RENATER, Supann, Salesforce/Dynamics).
- **Security & Compliance:** Understanding of data protection, security best practices, and audit requirements.
- **Communication:** Strong written and verbal skills in French and English; ability to translate technical requirements into functional specifications.
- **Analytical & Process Orientation:** Capability to define KPIs, assess performance, and drive continuous improvement.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Relevant certifications in AI/ML (e.g., Google Cloud ML, AWS AI, Microsoft Azure AI) or project management (PMP, Prince2) preferred.
- Experience in higher‑education research or teaching environment is a plus.
