Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager – UK
**Role Summary**
Lead and develop the HSE strategy and operations across all Matrix Renewables renewable energy projects, with a focus on large-scale battery energy storage sites. Ensure compliance with UK health, safety and environmental legislation (CDM, ISO 45001, ISO 14001), oversee contractor performance, conduct risk assessments, site audits, incident investigations, and support ESG reporting in a fast‑paced, multinational environment.

- Foster a safety and environmental culture across multi‑disciplinary teams and contractors.
- Provide strategic HSE support to project development, construction and operations.
- Manage risk, investigate incidents, report findings, and drive continuous improvement.
- Liaise with regulators, stakeholders and ESG reporting bodies.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Develop, implement and continually optimise the company’s HSE management systems (CDM, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
2. Provide strategic HSE leadership to development, construction and operational teams.
3. Lead risk assessments, ensuring control measures are implemented and monitored.
4. Oversee contractor HSE performance, ensuring compliance with CDM and client requirements.
5. Conduct site inspections, audits and reporting of findings, driving improvement actions.
6. Manage incident investigations, root‑cause analyses and share lessons learned across the organisation.
7. Liaise with regulatory authorities, local stakeholders and external bodies on HSE matters.
8. Coordinate environmental assessments, waste management, and biodiversity protection measures.
9. Support ESG and sustainability reporting with accurate environmental data and performance metrics.
10. Promote a positive HSE culture through training, engagement initiatives and leadership by example.
**Required Skills**
- Strong technical expertise in health, safety and environmental management.
- Leadership and influence skills across all organisational levels.
- Excellent risk assessment, audit and investigation capabilities.
- Proficiency in UK legislation (CDM, ISO standards, environmental permitting).
- Ability to travel to UK project sites, including Scotland.
- Strong communication, training and stakeholder‑management abilities.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in H&S, ideally in renewable energy, utilities or construction.
- Experience managing HSE on large‑scale infrastructure or energy projects (battery storage, solar PV, wind).
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (chartered status with IOSH highly desirable).
- Relevant degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Health & Safety or related field.
