**Job Title:** Senior/Principal Project Engineer – Substation/Switchyard
**Role Summary:**
Lead the full lifecycle of utility‑scale substation and switchyard projects (150–500 kV), from concept through construction and commissioning. Serve as the primary technical liaison with clients, transmission owners, and internal teams, ensuring designs meet all regulatory, industry, and stakeholder requirements.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Provide technical oversight of external Engineers of Record and consulting vendors.
- Maintain proactive communication with transmission owners, operators, and ISOs.
- Support cost estimating, procurement, and regulatory filing processes.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Manage assigned substation/switchyard projects from early‑stage development to commissioning.
- Define engineering scope with Early‑Stage PM and Development Group.
- Oversee due diligence, training, and compliance of external EORs to IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other codes.
- Develop scopes, solicit bids, and award contracts for engineering, geotechnical, survey, and construction services via the Integrated Supply Chain.
- Coordinate site acquisition, permitting, and data requests with transmission owners.
- Present project status, risks, and mitigation plans to senior management.
- Review interconnection documentation (system impact, facility, harmonic studies).
- Align designs with ISO requirements and off‑taker specifications.
- Manage long‑lead material orders to mitigate schedule and cost risks.
- Support estimating with technical input and scope modifications.
- Collaborate across disciplines to set priorities and clear responsibilities.
- Provide technical support for legal/regulatory filings and OEM design adaptations.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong knowledge of high‑voltage (150‑500 kV) substation and switchyard design.
- Project engineering/management experience with a bias for action.
- Proficiency in industry standards (IEEE, NESC, ASCE) and regulatory processes.
- Excellent client‑facing and stakeholder communication abilities.
- Ability to develop scopes, evaluate bids, and manage vendor contracts.
- Competence in risk identification, mitigation, and reporting.
- Familiarity with cost estimating, procurement, and long‑lead item management.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering (or related field).
- 7+ years of relevant high‑voltage substation/switchyard engineering experience.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not mandatory.
