Job Description
Job Title: Jr. Network Engineer Role Summary: Support and maintain DoD network infrastructure for 20,000+ users, ensuring high availability and security across LAN/MAN/WAN environments. Manage hardware and software installations, troubleshoot layer 1–3 issues, and document incidents and resolutions. Expectations: - Provide onsite and remote support for outage and maintenance tickets. - Execute network device installations, upgrades, and configurations. - Collaborate with a team of Network Technicians and Engineers to meet project coordination and execution goals. - Adhere to current policies, procedures, and security protocols, escalating issues as needed. Key Responsibilities: - Resolve outages and network-related incidents for routers, switches, access points, IPS, VPN, and WAN accelerators. - Install and upgrade Cisco, Aruba, Brocade, Juniper, Riverbed, and McAfee devices. - Contribute to COMSEC/TACLANE support, including troubleshooting and re‑keying. - Perform LAN/WAN outage recovery and maintenance tasks. - Document incident causes and corrective actions in the Incident Management System. - Follow and enforce DoD security policies and procedures. - Coordinate with Service Desk for incident assignment and escalation. - Provide support for network monitoring and cabling in large LAN/MAN/BAN/WAN environments. Required Skills: - 4+ years as a Network Technician or Engineer. - Strong understanding of Ethernet, IP, and the OSI model. - Troubleshooting experience with layer 1–3 issues. - Proficiency in configuring routers, switches, wireless controllers, IPS, VPN, and WAN accelerators. - Knowledge of OSPF, BGP, EIGRP (preferred). - Experience with wireless technologies, VPN, IPS, and WAN accelerators. - Excellent project coordination and communication skills. - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate a valid driver’s license. Required Education & Certifications: - U.S. Citizen with valid DoD Secret clearance. - CompTIA Security+ CE. - Cisco Certified Systems Technician (CCST) within 6 months of start date.
