Job Description
Job title: Founding Business Development Representative Role Summary: Entrusted to build and own the top of the sales funnel, the Founding BDR will prospect, qualify, and initiate conversations with enterprise prospects, driving pipeline growth and market expansion for a climate‑tech startup. Working closely with the Founder, Growth Lead, Account Executives, and Marketing, the BDR shapes messaging, experiments with outreach tactics, and provides insights to refine lead qualification and prospecting strategies. Expactations: - Build a high‑volume outbound pipeline of qualified prospects in the enterprise sector. - Demonstrate a relentless drive to contact and open doors with key decision‑makers in large organisations. - Meet or exceed weekly/ monthly outreach and qualification targets, and progress consistently toward higher‑level selling roles (AE or sales lead). - Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records in the CRM and provide transparent pipeline reporting. Key Responsibilities: - Research target accounts, identify and engage with decision‑makers (Sustainability, Procurement, etc.). - Conduct discovery calls, perform needs assessments, and qualify prospects for readiness and fit. - Initiate and nurture initial conversations to uncover business challenges and position the company’s decarbonisation solutions. - Schedule and coordinate demos and meetings for Account Executives with senior stakeholders. - Track all outreach activities, pipeline metrics, and lead quality using CRM and sales engagement tools. - Collaborate with marketing to assess campaign effectiveness and refine messaging and outreach tactics. - Work with leadership to optimise lead qualification criteria and prospecting strategies. Required Skills: - 1–3 years of sales experience in technology or startup environments. - Proven outbound prospecting ability (cold calling, email campaigns, LinkedIn outreach). - Strong verbal and written communication, with rapid rapport‑building with senior stakeholders. - Excellent organisational and time‑management skills for high‑volume outbound activities. - Proficiency with CRM systems (Attio, HubSpot, or equivalent) and sales engagement tools. - Strong research capabilities to map organisational structures and identify decision‑makers. - Goal‑oriented, coachable mindset with a demonstrated record of exceeding targets. - Aspiration to grow into an Account Executive or sales leadership role. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, marketing, sustainability, or a related field. - No mandatory certifications; however, experience or knowledge of climate‑tech and decarbonisation is desirable.
