About the Company

The EDPS is the European Union’s independent data protection authority. We monitor and ensure the protection of personal data and privacy when EU institutions and bodies process the personal information of individuals.

We advise EU institutions and bodies on all matters relating to the processing of personal information. We are consulted by the EU legislator on proposals for legislation and new policy development. We also cooperate with national supervisory authorities and other supervisory bodies to improve consistency in protecting personal information.

In our supervisory role, we monitor and ensure that the EU institutions comply with data protection rules.

Job Description
**Job Title** Member of the Legal Service **Role Summary** Provide independent legal support within a European supervisory institution. Operate as the institution’s representative in EU litigation, review documents for legal compliance, advise senior officials, and coordinate legal aspects of institutional projects. **Expactations** - Demonstrate integrity, impartiality, transparency, and pragmatism. - Manage high‑volume, time‑sensitive work, prioritising urgent tasks. - Foster cooperation across internal units and external stakeholders. **Key Responsibilities** - Act as (co‑)agent in litigation before the Court of Justice, General Court, and other EU courts: draft briefs, attend hearings, follow up on judgments. - Conduct legal reviews of documents submitted to senior management for approval, focusing on potentially challengeable acts. - Provide timely legal analysis and written or oral advice to supervisors and senior management. - Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate institutional projects from a legal viewpoint. - Perform additional tasks as needed to support the Legal Service. **Required Skills** - University‑level legal education (minimum three years, diploma). - In‑depth knowledge of EU law, institutions, treaties, and at least one of the following fields: Union Data Protection Law, Union Competition Law, enforcement of Union law, EU Institutional/Administrative Law, EU HR Law, EU Procedural Law, or litigation before EU courts. - Project coordination and stakeholder management. - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and creative solution‑finding abilities. - Resilience under high workload and decisive action in urgent situations. - Excellent oral and written communication. - Capacity to prioritise and manage competing tasks. **Required Education & Certifications** - Completed university studies in law (minimum three years). - (No specific certifications required, but experience with EU data protection regulations such as Reg. EU 2016/679 and Reg. EU 2018/1725 is advantageous.)
