Job Description

**Job title** Senior Software Engineer **Role Summary** Lead design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure, cloud-native bioinformatics pipelines and supporting infrastructure. Work cross‑functionally with scientists and informaticians to deliver high‑performance research workflows, primarily leveraging Nextflow, Google Cloud Platform, and modern DevOps practices. **Expectations** - Mentor junior devs and establish engineering standards for research computing. - Automate deployment, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code for complex scientific workloads. - Ensure solutions are maintainable, secure, and compliant with cloud best practices. **Key Responsibilities** - Collaborate with research scientists to build high‑performance Nextflow pipelines and BigTable tables. - Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps. - Design and maintain cloud‑native services on Google Cloud Platform (majority) and Azure (minority). - Write clean Python code and shell scripts for infrastructure automation. - Troubleshoot end‑to‑end stack issues from cloud services to local environments. - Promote and implement infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) and DevOps standards across teams. - Partner with infrastructure engineers to enhance platform capabilities for research use cases. - Adapt to new scientific domains and technologies, creating best‑practice documentation. **Required Skills** - 6+ years of GCP experience (BigQuery, Cloud Run) or equivalent mix of GCP/Azure/AWS. - 6+ years of DevOps experience: containerization, CI/CD, GitHub Actions (preferred). - 6+ years of Python and shell scripting; strong Java experience highly desirable. - Full‑stack development with JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, and FastAPI. - 3+ years of Terraform infrastructure‑as‑code. - Proficiency in debugging, automation tooling, and cloud operations. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience. - Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., GCP Professional Data Engineer, AWS DevOps Engineer) are a plus.
