Job Description
**Job Title** Mechanical Engineering Apprentice **Role Summary** A structured apprenticeship that combines on‑site mechanics training with a weekly off‑site technical course. Candidates gain hands‑on experience with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, preventive maintenance, safety compliance and continuous improvement processes. **Expectations** Progress from apprenticeship to a fully qualified mechanical craftsperson, demonstrating increasing technical skill, operational responsibility, and a proactive contribution to process optimisation and safety. **Key Responsibilities** - Support the site safety programme and contribute to a zero‑injury objective. - Attend one day of off‑site technical training per week during term time. - Acquire knowledge of, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. - Dismantle, assemble, and repair mechanical components and equipment. - Assist in planning and executing preventative maintenance activities. - Record accurate maintenance records in the maintenance information system. - Participate in trials and continuous improvement projects, proposing enhancements to reduce downtime. **Required Skills** - Strong teamwork and communication abilities. - Excellent organisational, time‑management and attention‑to‑detail skills. - Proactive learning mindset and willingness to share ideas. - Basic mechanical and technical aptitude with a genuine interest in engineering. - Safety‑first attitude and compliance with operational procedures. **Required Education & Certifications** - Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, Science and IT. - Engineering‑related qualifications or high grades (B or above) in technical subjects are a bonus. - No prior work experience required; enthusiasm for engineering and a desire for hands‑on growth are essential.
