Job title: Process Engineer
Role Summary
Specialist in process modelling and optimisation for refinery and petrochemical systems, applying first‑principle simulation and advanced AI/ML techniques. Drives performance improvements, supports product development, and provides technical support in deployment and control optimisation.
Expectations
- Hold a PhD in Process System Engineering or Chemical Engineering with focus on process modelling/optimisation.
- Deliver high‑quality simulation models, data‑driven tools, and techno‑economic analyses that influence product decisions.
- Communicate findings effectively to cross‑functional teams and support client‑site roll‑outs.
- Stay current with emerging modelling methodologies and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, validate, and maintain steady‑state and dynamic models for processes such as catalytic reforming, FCC, hydrocracking, and steam cracking using UniSim™, Aspen HYSYS/Plus or in‑house tools.
- Generate large‑scale simulation datasets to train AI/ML models.
- Conduct techno‑economic feasibility studies and optimisation to enhance yield, energy use, and cost.
- Collect, clean, analyse process and laboratory data; identify trends and optimization opportunities.
- Develop, train, and validate machine‑learning models (ANN, regression, time‑series forecasting, deep learning).
- Integrate first‑principle and AI/ML approaches into hybrid digital twins and predictive optimisation tools.
- Support product deployment on client sites, including commissioning, operational roll‑out, and control‑strategy improvement.
- Contribute to new product development, workflow design, and alignment with market demands.
Required Skills
- Advanced mathematics, optimisation, and modelling for engineering applications.
- Proficient in simulation software: UniSim™, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus or comparable.
- Strong programming background in Python, GAMS, MATLAB or similar.
- Experience with machine‑learning frameworks: deep learning, ANN, time‑series forecasting.
- Data science fundamentals: data cleaning, feature engineering, model evaluation.
- Ability to produce and interpret techno‑economic metrics.
- Effective written and oral communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Required Education & Certifications
- PhD in Process System Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in refinery / petrochemical process modelling & optimisation.
- No mandatory additional certifications; relevant professional credentials (e.g., PE, PMP) are advantageous but not required.
