Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications
Role Summary
Senior communications leader responsible for shaping and executing the brand, messaging, and media strategy for a mission‑driven education organization. Works closely with executive leadership to align marketing initiatives with organizational goals, build visibility, drive engagement, and support fundraising and policy influence.
Expectations
- Deliver integrated marketing and communications plans that reflect the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Lead a high‑performing team and vendor network, building scalable content workflows and ensuring brand consistency across all channels.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on messaging, storytelling, and public engagement.
- Manage crisis communications and brand risk with proactive planning and rapid response.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evolve the organization’s marketing and communications strategy in partnership with the leadership team.
- Own brand architecture, voice guidelines, visual identity, and messaging frameworks; ensure equity‑centered, authentic representation of target communities.
- Produce multi‑channel content (web, social, email, media, presentations, donor materials) that supports fundraising, impact, and public trust.
- Collaborate with development to align marketing with donor engagement, impact reporting, and fundraising campaigns.
- Build and maintain relationships with local and national press, partners, and policy stakeholders; draft press releases, op‑eds, and rapid‑response messages.
- Lead crisis communications planning and brand risk management.
- Oversee digital strategy (website, data storytelling, emerging channels) and use analytics to evaluate performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor and grow the marketing & communications team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Participate in strategic decision‑making, long‑term planning, and fiscal stewardship as a member of the leadership team.
Required Skills
- Strategic marketing & communications leadership (minimum 10 years).
- Brand development, messaging, and visual identity expertise.
- Content creation and management across web, social, email, and media.
- Fundraising & donor communication experience, including impact reporting.
- Crisis communication and media relations proficiency.
- Data analytics for communications performance and ROI.
- Team leadership, mentorship, and vendor management.
- Strong written and verbal communication, storytelling, and public speaking.
- Ability to influence senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional certification in Marketing, Communications, or PR (e.g., CPM, PMP, CMO, or equivalent) is a plus.
