Job title: Senior Application Designer (IBM Mainframe Platform)
Role Summary:
Lead design and architecture of complex settlement and asset transfer applications on IBM Mainframe. Translate business requirements into functional, data, and technical models. Mentor junior team members, review design documentation, and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
Expectations:
Deliver high‑quality, scalable designs that meet functional, performance, and regulatory requirements. Act as a technical bridge between business stakeholders and development teams. Maintain design documentation and support production, testing, and deployment activities, including after‑hours support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed system and functional design for new or enhanced applications.
- Review and validate designs against business needs and enterprise architecture guidelines.
- Translate requirements into functional specifications, data models, and integration patterns.
- Produce and review program specifications, coding standards, and testing plans.
- Mentor and coach junior developers on design, coding, and testing best practices.
- Collaborate with application architects, infrastructure teams, and testing teams throughout the lifecycle.
- Participate in production support, incident resolution, and post‑deployment testing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards, reusable patterns, and tools.
- Provide expert guidance on IBM Mainframe technologies, Java/.NET stacks, and integration solutions.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience as developer and functional designer on IBM Mainframe (PLI, DB2, MQ, CICS).
- Strong proficiency in Java or .NET, APIs, integration, and data technologies.
- Experience with private cloud (Azure) and event‑driven architectures (Kafka).
- Linux Java development stack familiarity.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and solution‑oriented mindset.
- Proactive change identification and innovative solution proposal.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder influence skills.
- Ability to work autonomously, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and support after‑hours production.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Relevant IBM Mainframe certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Solution Developer – CICS, IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2) preferred.
- Certifications in Java/.NET, Azure, or Kafka considered an asset.
