Job Description
Job Title: Payroll Specialist Role Summary: Oversee the weekly payroll of a high‑volume locum workforce (doctors, nurses, allied health professionals) ensuring accurate, timely processing, compliance with UK and Irish payroll legislation, and meticulous record‑keeping. Expectations: * Process payroll for 500+ temporary staff each week with a minimum of 99.9% accuracy. * Apply complex pay elements (unsocial hours, weekend shifts, on‑call allowances). * Maintain strict adherence to Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), Fixed‑Term Work Act (Ireland), and UK IR35 rules. * Provide clear, accurate payroll and expense reporting to internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: * Manage high‑volume weekly payroll for temporary and bank staff. * Process complex pay components: unsocial hours, weekend premiums, on‑call allowances, statutory payments and deductions. * Calculate and report pensions, IR35 assessments, and statutory contributions (NI, PAYE, SMP). * Reconcile payroll to prepare accurate month‑end reports. * Respond to payroll and expense enquiries promptly. * Monitor and interpret changes in payroll legislation; implement updates. * Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee data. Required Skills: * Minimum 3 years of payroll experience in a high‑volume environment. * Proven expertise with cloud‑based payroll systems (e.g., ROI Payroll). * Deep knowledge of UK PAYE/RTI and Irish tax/IRA regulations. * Familiarity with umbrella company compliance and off‑payroll working rules. * Strong analytical and reconciliation skills. * Exceptional attention to detail and organisational ability. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of simplifying complex payroll information. Required Education & Certifications: * No mandatory degree; relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional, CIPM) preferred. * Current knowledge of UK and Irish payroll statutory requirements.
