Job title: Information Technology Business Analyst
Role Summary:
Business Analyst for Data Catalog – responsible for translating business and data governance requirements into functional specifications for a data catalog solution, ensuring data assets are discoverable, accurate, and compliant with governance policies, and facilitating adoption and training across the organization.
Expectations:
- Work 12‑month contract, 7 hr/day (2–3 days onsite).
- Deliver clear user stories, functional and technical requirements, and system documentation.
- Build and maintain data catalog artifacts while driving continuous improvement of data discoverability, quality, and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather and document requirements for data catalog creation, maintenance, and automation.
- Collaborate with Data Governance Analysts, Data Stewards, IT teams, and product owners to define vision, roadmap, and governance rules.
- Define data classification, quality rules, and metadata standards; ensure catalog reflects all data assets accurately.
- Conduct audits, analyze catalog metrics, and recommend enhancements.
- Provide training and support to stewards and users; develop “train‑the‑trainer” materials.
- Produce dashboards and reports on data usage and quality.
- Stay current with catalog technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Unity Catalogue, Alation, Collibra, Informatica).
- Facilitate change management across business units and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- Work in agile, product‑centric environments delivering incremental value.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years in business analysis or business system analysis with a data focus.
- Proven experience in data management, data governance, or related roles.
- Hands‑on with data catalog tools (Alation, Collibra, Informatica) and business glossaries.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to translate technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, law 25).
- Understanding of data lifecycle, data quality standards, classification, and governance frameworks.
- Experience in agile delivery, product‑centric mindset, and creating reusable system documentation.
Required Education & Certifications:
- University degree or postgraduate qualification in data management, computer science, or equivalent field.
- Relevant certifications in data governance, business analysis, or data catalog tools are a plus.
