**Job title:** Data Governance Officer
**Role Summary:**
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise data governance, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, robust data security, and widespread data literacy across the organization.
**Expactations:**
Deliver measurable data governance outcomes; maintain alignment with legal and regulatory frameworks; foster a data‑driven culture; support audit readiness; provide strategic direction for data maturity evolution.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Draft, update, and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures in line with GDPR and industry regulations.
- Coordinate with risk, cyber, and IT teams to align security controls, data classification, and access governance.
- Design and run data literacy and training programs for business users, data stewards, and technical staff.
- Prepare and support internal/external audits, ensuring documentation and controls are auditable.
- Drive the data maturity roadmap, assessing current capabilities and implementing improvement initiatives.
- Build and sustain relationships with data owners, stewards, business leaders, and technical stakeholders.
- Resolve data‑governance issues through clear communication, feedback loops, and escalation management.
**Required Skills:**
- 3+ years in data governance, compliance, audit, or data management.
- Deep knowledge of data governance concepts, metadata management, data cataloging.
- Strong understanding of data security frameworks and legal obligations (GDPR, etc.).
- Excellent communication, stakeholder influence, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and drive consensus.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Information Management, Data Science, Law, or related field.
- Preferred certifications: CDGP (Data Governance Professional), CISM, CIPP, or CISA.
