Job Description
Job title: Senior Software Engineer (Cloud/Java/AWS) Role Summary: Design, develop, and modernise Java microservices on AWS, replacing legacy components within a cloud‑native environment. Lead hands‑on coding, TDD, and CI/CD pipeline integration in a small, focused delivery team. Expactations: Deliver high‑quality, scalable services that replace legacy components; maintain code quality through TDD; continuously improve DevOps pipelines; collaborate on architecture decisions; meet sprint commitments and technical deadlines. Key Responsibilities: - Architect and implement Java microservices using AWS services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.). - Refactor or migrate legacy components to cloud‑native architectures. - Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild and related tools. - Write and maintain unit, integration, and acceptance tests, ensuring test‑driven development. - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define requirements, design solutions, and review code. - Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise deployed services for performance and cost. - Mentor junior developers and share best practices. Required Skills: - Strong expertise in AWS (including CDK, IAM, CloudFormation, S3, DynamoDB, ECS/EKS). - Proven experience building and maintaining Java microservices. - Solid understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD (AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy). - Proficient in Test‑Driven Development and automated testing frameworks. - Experience with legacy system refactoring or component migrations. - Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/Elastic Kubernetes Service). - Good communication and collaboration skills. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. - AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional) are highly desirable.
