**Job Title**
Data Scientist Intern (Internship)
**Role Summary**
Assist the Data & AI and Operations teams in developing data‑driven models to optimize waste collection, sorting, and treatment processes, focusing on hazardous waste. Work on data acquisition, cleaning, exploratory analysis, predictive modeling, optimization algorithms, and interactive dashboards, within a cloud‑based Azure environment.
**Expectations**
- Deliver actionable insights and models that improve operational efficiency and reduce reagent costs.
- Present findings clearly to operational stakeholders and recommend practical improvements.
- Stay current with emerging Machine Learning techniques and apply them to environmental data challenges.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Collect, clean, and preprocess sensor data, internal databases, and historical operational records.
2. Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends and influential variables.
3. Build and evaluate machine‑learning models (e.g., regression, classification) to predict physico‑chemical parameters of hazardous waste.
4. Design optimization solutions (linear programming, heuristics, simulations) to minimize reactive‑material usage.
5. Create interactive dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, or Streamlit to visualize data flows and model outputs.
6. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate technical results into operational actions.
7. Research and propose new ML and optimization approaches relevant to waste management.
8. Employ DevOps practices: version control with Git, continuous integration/deployment pipelines, and documentation.
**Required Skills**
- Proficient in Python with Pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Knowledge of mathematical optimization and operations research (linear programming, heuristics, graph theory).
- Experience with SQL databases and handling large datasets.
- Data visualization expertise (Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI, Tableau).
- Familiarity with Azure cloud services and internal CoDAI platform.
- Understanding of DevOps fundamentals (Git, CI/CD).
- Strong analytical mindset, problem‑solving ability, and clear communication skills.
- Initiative, autonomy, and ability to simplify complex concepts for non‑technical audiences.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Current enrolment in the final year of an engineering school, Master’s in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field.
- At least one relevant data‑science internship or project experience is advantageous.
