**Job Title:**
Product Development Specialist
**Role Summary:**
Contract specialist responsible for end-to-end packaging development for cosmetics/skincare products, including sourcing, testing, design, translation, regulatory compliance, and vendor management. Works closely with product engineering, QA, and supply chain to launch new products and production runs.
**Expectations:**
* Deliver high‑quality packaging solutions that meet sustainability, regulatory, and brand standards.
* Manage multiple parallel projects with minimal oversight while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Communicate findings and updates to leadership and stakeholders clearly and professionally.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Packaging Sourcing & Innovation** – research and evaluate sustainable materials and technologies; present project advances to leadership.
2. **Packaging Testing** – develop test methods, SOPs; coordinate compatibility testing with manufacturers and chemists; provide technical support.
3. **Copy & Translation Management** – gather, verify, and translate all packaging copy; coordinate updates with production changes.
4. **Design & Artwork** – collaborate with designers to create labels, boxes, and inserts that meet brand and regulatory requirements; manage dielines and artwork production.
5. **Product Release & Supply Chain Coordination** – compile data packages (BOMs, artwork, specs) for launch; support copacker package format development.
6. **Production Run Oversight** – release final packaging to production; attend deco/print runs; verify fill capacities and headspace.
7. **Package Change Control** – file and track packaging change requests; maintain system for artwork, copy, and component updates.
8. **QA & Complaint Resolution** – address packaging‑related customer complaints in collaboration with QA, Engineering, and Product Development.
9. **Regulatory Compliance** – ensure all packaging meets territory‑specific regulatory and cGMP/SOP/ISO/OTC/NHP requirements.
10. **Vendor & Supplier Relations** – maintain relationships with existing vendors; source and evaluate new suppliers; attend supplier visits and trade shows.
11. **Administration** – update artwork, item codes, product specs, inventory codes, and packaging dockets.
**Required Skills:**
* Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
* Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Detailed orientation with high organizational and multitasking abilities.
* Knowledge of packaging material specifications and sustainable solutions.
* Ability to manage project timelines and deliverables independently.
* Entrepreneurial mindset, self‑motivation, urgency, intensity, and integrity.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
* Bachelor’s or College degree in Packaging Engineering, Design, or a related discipline.
* 2–3 years experience in cosmetic/skincare packaging with a proven record of new product launches.
* Familiarity with regulations such as cGMP, SOPs, ISO, and OTC/NHP is an asset.
