Job Description
Job title: Legal Counsel – Digital, Data & Privacy Role Summary: Provide in‑house legal leadership for a healthcare organization’s digital transformation, overseeing data protection, privacy compliance, and commercial contracts for digital products and services. Expectations: - 3+ years post‑qualification legal experience (PQE). - Proven expertise in data privacy laws (GDPR, UK Data Protection Act) and emerging AI legislation. - Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder relationships and represent the company in litigation. - Strong business acumen, risk assessment, and pragmatic decision‑making. Key Responsibilities: - Advise on compliance with GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, AI regulations, and related privacy statutes. - Draft, review, negotiate, and amend complex commercial agreements for SaaS, APIs, cloud services, AI solutions, and digital products. - Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and provide clear legal guidance to product, engineering, marketing, and compliance teams. - Represent the company in dispute resolution, including litigation and regulatory investigations. - Monitor legislative developments, advise on impacts to business strategies, and lead training/awareness initiatives. Required Skills: - In‑depth knowledge of GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, UK data security laws, and AI-related legislation. - Strong contract law skills, especially for digital and technology agreements. - Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and advocacy abilities. - Analytical mindset, business‑savvy, and pragmatic approach to problem‑solving. - Stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration. Required Education & Certifications: - Qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent legal qualification). - LLB, JD, or comparable legal degree. - Data privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPD) or equivalent is advantageous.
