Job Description
**Job Title:** Trainee Buyer **Role Summary:** Support the Buying team in day‑to‑day administration while learning core buying processes, sample management, trade analysis, and supplier coordination within a fashion retail environment. **Expectations:** - Provide accurate and timely administrative support across the Buying department. - Maintain organized sample and documentation flow. - Contribute to trade pack preparation and market analysis. - Demonstrate proactive learning attitude and collaborative teamwork. - Align actions with the company’s sustainability and ethical standards. **Key Responsibilities:** - Receive, label, and log prototype, VM, and photo‑shoot samples; track sample progress with global suppliers. - Prepare samples and paperwork for selection meetings, fittings, and product approvals. - Maintain department filing, approvals, and supplier correspondence. - Assist Assistant Buyer with critical‑path scheduling, product labeling, packaging, and online product data preparation. - Update sustainability certifications in the system. - Compile Monday trading packs; analyze best/worst performing items. - Identify gaps in product range using trend awareness and propose new initiatives. - Conduct competitor and inspirational brand visits; update seasonal competitor analysis on product and pricing. - Support department strategy by gathering supplier, competitor, and product intelligence. - Learn product development, material sourcing, cost‑price negotiation, and colour/fabric/fit approval criteria. - Deputise for Assistant Buyer when required. **Required Skills:** - Strong passion for fashion and awareness of current market trends. - Highly organized with ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently. - Proficient in Microsoft Office and product‑related systems. - Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to liaise with internal teams and external suppliers. - “Can‑do” attitude, enthusiasm to learn, and alignment with social and environmental values. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Fashion, Retail, Business or related qualification (e.g., BA Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management) **or** demonstrable in‑store retail experience. - No specific certifications required; basic understanding of buying lifecycle and terminology expected.
