**Job Title**: Senior Data Engineer
**Role Summary**: Design, build, and operate end‑to‑end data pipelines and analytics‑ready datasets for a healthtech platform. Own the implementation, reliability, and evolution of data workflows while mentoring a mid‑level engineer and collaborating closely with product, data architecture, and cloud infrastructure teams across UK and US regions.
**Expactations**: Demonstrated autonomy in technical decision‑making, ownership of production data systems, and line‑management of engineering talent. Provide clear, production‑grade solutions that are cost‑efficient, observable, and compliant with GDPR/HIPAA.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Build scalable, reliable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and semi‑structured data (surveys, EHR extracts, event logs).
- Translate canonical data models into physical models in analytics warehouses (Redshift, Athena).
- Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes; maintain lineage and audit trails.
- Operate pipelines on AWS (S3, Redshift, RDS, Athena, DocumentDB), coordinating with platform engineers on infrastructure, access control, and deployment patterns.
- Enable analytics, dashboards, and AI/ML use cases through well‑documented, reusable datasets.
- Mentor and line‑manage a mid‑level data engineer; enforce best practices in testing, documentation, and code quality.
- Communicate requirements and solutions with product, analytics, and engineering stakeholders.
**Required Skills**
- 7+ years in data engineering or related roles, with proven production system ownership.
- Advanced SQL and analytics‑focused data modeling.
- Hands‑on experience building AWS‑based pipelines (S3, Redshift, RDS, Athena, DocumentDB).
- Familiarity with semi‑structured data (JSON, event streams).
- Proficiency in Python and data transformation tools (e.g., dbt).
- Knowledge of orchestration tools (Airflow, Step Functions).
- Strong data quality, reliability, and governance focus.
- Experience mentoring or line‑managing engineers.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- AWS certification (Solutions Architect, Data Analytics, or similar) is a plus.
