**Job Title** Design Engineer (Core Physics and Fuel) **Role Summary** Junior engineer responsible for the design, safety verification, and fuel cycle analysis of PWR and fast SMR reactors. Conduct core physics modelling, in‑core fuel management, and transient safety studies using deterministic and Monte‑Carlo codes, and produce technical reports and contribute to R&D projects. **Expectations** - <3 years of industry experience in core physics or related nuclear engineering field. - Master’s degree (or equivalent) in nuclear engineering, physics, or a related discipline. - Proven ability to perform core physics calculations and manage team deliverables under tight schedules. **Key Responsibilities** - Execute core design and reload safety verification for Belgian nuclear plants and SMR fast reactors. - Perform fuel safety analyses, including neutronics, thermal‑hydraulic, and fuel thermomechanics studies. - Develop in‑core fuel management strategies and conduct fuel cycle analyses. - Verify cycle safety across neutronic, fuel, and thermal‑hydraulic aspects. - Undertake R&D projects related to core physics applications. - Prepare engineering and synthesis reports of analyses. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on technical issues and project delivery. **Required Skills** - Strong theoretical background in nuclear systems, core physics phenomena, neutronics, and thermal‑hydraulics. - Proficiency in simulation codes (deterministic and Monte‑Carlo) used for core and fuel physics. - Advanced Python programming and familiarity with AI techniques for engineering applications. - Excellent written and verbal communication in English; French or Dutch proficiency is required with practice of the other language. - Self‑verification mindset, rigorous attention to detail, and ability to deliver high‑quality results within deadlines. - Team‑oriented, good listening skills, and dynamic problem‑solving abilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or equivalent. - Bachelor’s degree in physics (if no master’s) is acceptable with demonstrable experience in core physics calculations. - No specific certifications required.
