Job Description
**Job title** Head of Department – Construction **Role Summary** Strategic leader responsible for the delivery, development and continuous improvement of the Construction department’s education and training programmes. Oversees a multidisciplinary team of lecturers, assessors, technicians and placement administrators to ensure industry‑aligned, quality‑driven outcomes for students and stakeholders. **Expectations** - Deliver high‑quality, standards‑compliant education and training that meets current and future construction industry needs. - Champion a culture of innovation, inclusivity and continuous improvement within the team. - Ensure safeguarding, compliance and data protection policies are actively upheld. - Foster strong links with local industry partners and professional bodies. **Key Responsibilities** - Lead and mentor the department team, driving professional development and staff performance. - Design, review and audit curriculum and assessment frameworks against industry qualifications and standards. - Coordinate course delivery, resources, and scheduling to maximise student outcomes and engagement. - Maintain rigorous safeguarding practices and conduct enhanced disclosure for all staff. - Monitor and report on key performance indicators: student progression, assessment marks, placement success, and satisfaction metrics. - Engage with external partners, industry bodies and regulatory agencies to keep the department’s offerings current. - Oversee accreditation processes and ensure compliance with national audit and inspection frameworks. **Required Skills** - Proven senior leadership experience within higher‑education or vocational training (construction or related technical field). - In‑depth knowledge of construction industry standards, qualifications and professional bodies. - Strong strategic planning, curriculum design and quality assurance capabilities. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. - Commitment to safeguarding, diversity, equity, and inclusion. - Analytical mindset for monitoring outcomes and driving data‑based improvements. **Required Education & Certifications** - Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths. - Relevant construction or technical qualification (e.g., NVQ, Level 3/4 Construction, PRSM, or equivalent). - Degree in Construction Management, Education, or a related field is preferred. - Leadership or management training/cohort experience in an educational setting is desirable.
