Lead Data Engineer (Cloud & Python/Java)
**Role Summary**
Lead the design, development, and operation of scalable data platforms and pipelines on cloud environments. Drive technical strategy, manage a data engineering team, and partner with senior business stakeholders to deliver secure, high‑performance data solutions that support risk, controls, and governance objectives.
**Expectations**
- 8+ years of hands‑on data engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven ability to deliver end‑to‑end data transformation pipelines in cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Strong communication skills for reporting to directors and influencing cross‑functional change initiatives.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking in transformation or change‑management projects.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead, mentor, and expand a high‑performing data engineering team.
- Architect and implement distributed database solutions and data‑flow pipelines using Python, Java, or comparable languages.
- Build and maintain secure, durable, and performant data platforms on selected cloud provider(s).
- Define data governance, risk, and control frameworks in collaboration with business owners.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs and deliverables.
- Oversee change‑management activities and ensure smooth migration/transition of data solutions.
**Required Skills**
- Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, and/or GCP (deployment, networking, security).
- Programming: Python and/or Java (data processing, API development).
- Distributed data systems: Kafka, Spark, Flink, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar.
- Data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and pipeline orchestration (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
- Strong understanding of data architecture, scalability, and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of risk, controls, and governance frameworks.
- Leadership, stakeholder management, and change‑management expertise.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer) are strongly preferred.
- Professional certifications in data engineering or big data (e.g., Cloudera, SnowPro, Databricks) are a plus.
