Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is an award-winning NHS hospital and community services trust providing high quality, personalised, acute, elective, specialist and community care for a population of over 200,000 people from a widespread area covering 700 square miles within Yorkshire and Lancashire. Job Description
Job Title: Chief Digital & Information Officer Role Summary: Lead the development, implementation, and governance of a comprehensive digital and data strategy that aligns with the organisation’s strategic priorities. Drive the creation of a modern, interoperable digital infrastructure, champion innovative technologies (automation, AI, data analytics), and ensure secure, trusted data across the enterprise. Influence board‑level decisions as a non‑voting member and foster collaborative relationships across clinical, operational, and external stakeholders. Expectations: - Deliver measurable improvement in patient outcomes and staff experience through technology. - Achieve a cohesive, enterprise‑wide digital roadmap that supports long‑term organisational goals. - Maintain robust data security, compliance, and governance standards. - Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills. Key Responsibilities: - Design and roll out a shared digital and data architecture supporting current and future care models. - Lead a high‑performing digital and data team, aligning cross‑functional initiatives. - Advocate and implement intelligent automation, AI, and analytics solutions to optimise workflows. - Negotiate and manage high‑value contracts for hardware, software, and services. - Provide data‑driven insights, reports, and strategic recommendations to the board and senior leadership. - Build and sustain networks within the local and national health economy to inform strategy. - Ensure compliance with NHS and national technology policies, and embed best practice in performance management. Required Skills: - Strategic planning and digital transformation leadership. - Expertise in healthcare IT, data governance, cybersecurity, and AI/analytics. - Strong negotiation, procurement, and vendor‑management experience. - Financial acumen, including budgeting and cost control. - Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication abilities. - Proven change‑management and performance improvement in complex organisations. Required Education & Certifications: - University‑level degree (or equivalent) in a related field. - Post‑graduate qualification in health leadership, health informatics, or a comparable discipline. - Membership of a recognised professional body in healthcare IT or leadership. - Certified Healthcare CIO (CHIME) preferred.
