Job Description: **Job Title:** NHS Lothian & Borders Staff Bank – Pre‑Registration Nursing Students (Band 2) – Healthcare Assistants **Role Summary:** Temporary healthcare assistant supporting patient care across NHS Lothian & Borders. You will assist nursing staff, deliver person‑centred care, and contribute to a supportive team environment on an as‑needed basis. **Expectations:** - Attend shifts flexibly – daily, weekly or irregular hours. - Reliability, punctuality, and adherence to NHS policies. - Compassionate, person‑centred care delivery. - Maintain accurate records and report incidents promptly. - Uphold data protection, privacy and confidentiality standards. **Key Responsibilities:** - Assist patients with daily living activities (e.g., toileting, mobility, dressing). - Support nursing staff with basic clinical tasks (e.g., vital sign checks, simple wound dressing). - Ensure cleanliness and infection control in patient areas. - Monitor and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff. - Provide emotional support and maintain patient dignity. - Participate in team meetings and hand‑over reports. **Required Skills:** - Current enrollment in a UK pre‑registration nursing programme (Year 1‑3). - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Team‑working ability and a proactive approach. - Basic understanding of health and safety, infection control, and NHS procedures. - Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively and work independently. - Attention to detail and accuracy in record‑keeping. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Enrolled in a recognised pre‑registration nursing degree or equivalent (e.g., Bachelor’s level, NMC‑registered programme). - Valid UK National Curriculum for Nursing and Midwifery (NCN, section 4) knowledge. - No prior completed nursing registration required; completion of the pre‑registration programme is mandatory. - No additional certifications required. *This role is a temporary contract position within the NHS Staff Bank.
