Job Specifications

We are seeking 2 x Senior Firmware (FPGA) Engineers to join a leading defence technology organisation in Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge airborne applications, developing high-performance firmware solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop innovative FPGA firmware solutions using VHDL.
Verify designs using VHDL or SystemVerilog/UVM.
Analyse system-level documents and derive detailed firmware requirements.
Implement high-speed interface design & integration (PCIe, DDR3, Ethernet).
Specify and manage complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
Support system-related verification, integration, and debugging.
Work to structured firmware design processes (e.g., RTCA DO-254 or similar).

Essential Skills & Experience

Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), ideally specialising in FPGA/Digital techniques.
Proven FPGA design experience with VHDL.
Familiarity with SystemVerilog/UVM verification.
Expertise with current FPGA technologies (Xilinx, AMD, Altera, Microchip) and associated tools.
Experience with high-speed interface design and working to industry standards.
Siemens design tool experience.
Strong communication skills and ability to work within structured engineering lifecycles.

Desirable Skills

AMD devices/chipset experience.
Microchip FPGAs experience preferred.
Model-driven engineering tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink).

Onsite role in Edinburgh (4 days per week onsite may be considered, but 5 is strongly preferred).
