Security Engineer Consultant - Hybrid (Knoxville, TN)
Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week | 3-6 Month Contract with Potential to Hire

We are currently seeking a Security Engineer Consultant to join our client, a respected healthcare system in East Tennessee that is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care while driving innovation in healthcare delivery.
This is a full-time consulting engagement (40 hours per week) with an initial term of 3-6 months and the potential to convert into a full-time role. Candidates must live within driving distance of Knoxville, TN, and be available onsite 2-3 days per week.
We are not able to work with Corp-to-Corp arrangements for this position.
What You'll Do
Design and implement secure infrastructure and application architectures across on-prem and cloud environments
Evaluate, deploy, and optimize security tools and technologies (SIEM, EDR, WAF, IAM)
Maintain secure configurations across systems, networks, and Microsoft 365/Azure environments
Monitor and investigate security alerts using Splunk, Sentinel, CrowdStrike, or similar tools
Lead root cause analysis and drive remediation efforts for security incidents
Perform regular vulnerability scans and coordinate remediation with development and infrastructure teams
Support compliance and risk initiatives including HIPAA, SOC 2, and ISO 27001
Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines and automate tasks via scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
Provide security guidance and training to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Stay ahead of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices
What We're Looking For
3+ years in a security engineering or related technical role
Strong knowledge of networking, Linux/Windows OS, and hands-on experience with Azure/M365
Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection tools
Scripting or programming skills (Python, PowerShell, etc.)
Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST, CIS Controls, and MITRE ATT&CK
Preferred Qualifications
Professional certifications such as CISSP, OSCP, GSEC, or Azure Security Specialty
Experience securing containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
Knowledge of secure software development practices
Must Haves
Azure/M365 Security & Vulnerability Management Solutions (e.g., Tanium)
Cisco ISE
